PRESS RELEASE no: 2013/05
7 September 2013
The Progress
Estate Residents Association has warned Residents and other people with an
interest in the Estate that it will probably have to stop delivering paper
copies of its quarterly newsletter, Making
Progress, by March next year.
Accordingly, it appealed for people to provide it with their email
addresses in the June and September editions.

‘There are about
1,300 homes on our Estate’ said Rita Billinghurst, the Association’s
Chair. ‘So far about 195 people have
signed up. Fifty-five per cent of homes
use the internet for reading or downloading news* so our initial target is to
have a list 700. We are very pleased to
have achieved nearly 30% of this within three months’.
‘Quite often
initiatives have to be handled with some speed. We have recently issued our first circular
about one such matter to all Residents on our email list and would urge others
to sign up for similar future communications.
It must be better to receive information and decide whether or not you
want to respond, than not to receive it in the first place.
‘Anyone who
would like to be added to our list simply needs to send an email to TheProgressEstate@Gmail.com Please remember to state your name and
address’.
Note for Editors:
Originally named the Well Hall Estate, The Progress Estate was built in 1915 to provide housing for the many additional workers the Woolwich Arsenal needed to manufacture the armaments required by the services during the First World War. Conservation Area status was granted in 1975, in recognition of its unique architectural character.
