Progress Estate Summer Fete and Treasure Hunt

PRESS RELEASE no: 2014/08
10 July 2015

Progress Estate Summer Fete and Treasure Hunt
Saturday 25th July 11:00am to 4:00pm
Lovelace Green, Eltham, SE9 1LF

The Progress Residents Association is pleased to announce that the Mayor and the
Mayor of Royal Borough Of Greenwich
Mayoress of Royal Borough of Greenwich, Councillor Norman Adams and Serena Lovelace, have accepted its invitation to attend the Fete and will be arriving at 12:30 p.m.

The Association is also delighted that John Sandon will be opening the Fete.   John, the well-known porcelain expert on the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow and International Director of European Ceramics & Glass at Bonhams, the international auctioneers and valuers, is an ex-resident of Lovelace Green.   The recent Evening during
John Sandon
which he entertained a packed Progress Hall was, by general consensus, a highlight of our Estate’s centenary celebrations.

A treasure hunt is being sponsored by David Evans Property Services and a Progress Estate-related prize will be awarded to the winner.   Entry forms are available from their office at 20, Well Hall Road and people may obtain one by dropping in, calling 020 8859 5331 or emailing davidevanselt@btconnect.com or clicking here.   Entries, which are limited, are to be handed in on the day and people are advised to obtain their forms sooner rather than later.

Stalls will be offering plants, vintage bric-a-brac, face painting, beauty products, test-your-strength, candy floss and more.

Live acoustic music will be provided by Pytchwood and the Greenwich Mean Time Quartet.

Other attractions include a raffle, a judo demonstration and food/drink.

Note for Editors:

Originally named the Well Hall Estate, The Progress Estate was built in 1915 to provide housing for the many additional workers the Woolwich Arsenal needed to manufacture the armaments required by the services during the First World War.   Conservation Area status was granted in 1975, in recognition of its unique architectural character.
