June 2015 Newsletter

OUR ESTATE’S 100th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS CONTINUE

This, the second of our 2015 Newsletters, provides everyone with details of our three celebratory events for the Summer months
Dear All,
I hope you are well.
Our Centenary Year started with a wonderful afternoon of garden talks, plant sales and a raffle. It was opened by the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Councillor Mick Hayes and his wife Gillian. Russell Bowes’ historical talk, Dig for Victory, was followed by impromptu reminiscences of a life in Royal Gardening from Jim Buttress of the BBC2’s Big Allotment Challenge.   We would like to thank the stall outside Argos in Passey Place for donating so many plants as well as those attending who bought along their own donations.   The tea and cakes, also donated by local people, were a great success as was the raffle.   Prizes for this and the rest of the years’ raffles were also donated by generous residents and locals.   Being a non-profit organisation, gifts of this nature allow us to organise these events.   It was lovely to see so many of you.
Many residents have been kind enough to complete the questionnaire we sent out with the last newsletter.   If you have misplaced it and would like to fill one out, please contact me for another or fill out the online version here

Do you know a Good Neighbour?

During this year, we are also seeking nominations for our Nominate a Good Neighbour scheme.   Its purpose is to thank those people who spend time helping others.   In recognition of their devotion, Jim Buttress will present them with a token of our appreciation during the AGM and Christmas Social on Saturday, 12th December.

We will not of course announce or publish anybody’s name without their prior approval, because we know that many of these people do not seek recognition for what they do.

You may nominate anyone by providing Rita Billinghurst with their details
