PROGRESS ESTATE CONSERVATION AREA |
Ex-resident and local estate agent David Hallam, who has
extensive knowledge of the Estate, will assist in a memory-jogging discussion. This has been designed to ensure the capture
of as much information as possible about living on the estate through the
years. Everyones’ contributions and photographs
will be very welcome as potential items for the centennial book that is to be
published.
Contributions to the cake or raffle stalls will be welcomed. Cash voucher prizes will be given to an
adult and a child for the best cakes.
Further information is available from Rita Billinghurst,
telephone 07947 043479.
Originally named the Well
Hall Estate, The Progress Estate was built in 1915 to provide housing for the
many additional workers the Woolwich Arsenal needed to manufacture the
armaments required by the services during the First World War. Conservation Area status was granted in
1975, in recognition of its unique architectural character.
